Message from Principal McCoy... Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
We had a great turnout for our Hispanic Achievement Outreach Night. Parents received valuable information to assist their children at home with math. They also received information about other available resources in Howard County. High Achievers Night was well attended by parents and students in grades 3-5. They received information and strategies to help their children be confident and successful on the upcoming Maryland School Assessment (MSA).
Additional information about the MSA can be found on www.MDK12.org.
Dates for MSA Testing for grades 3,4 and 5. Testing will occur in the morning. Please be mindful of student absences and early dismissals on these days.
Reading - March 13 and 14 Math - March 20 and 21
Please also join us here at school for Family Reading and Math Night on Thursday, February 9. You are invited to attend an evening of fun and learning.
Our teachers will meet with parent/guardians of their Math students during Parent/Teacher conferences on February 15, 16, and 17. We will be using PickATime, the on-line internet program again to schedule these conferences. Conferences will be offered on Wednesday, February 15 and Thursday, February 16 from 1:00 - 8:00 pm and from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on Friday, February 17. Individual teacher's schedules will vary depending on their availability. If teachers offer evening conferences on Wednesday and Thursday, they will not conference on Friday, February 17. Teacher schedules will be on
PickATime. In order to schedule your conference, you will need your child's student ID number found on their Interim Report and Report Card. PickATime opened on Tuesday, January 31 at 9:00 am and will close on Thursday, February 9 at noon. Go to http://www.hcpss.orgto access the PickAtime link and directions to use PickAtime.
Kindergarten Registration Every child who is five years old by September 1 must be enrolled in a kindergarten program this fall, or have an approved waiver . Kindergarten registration for school year 2012-2013 begins February 27 through March 2, 2012. To register for kindergarten, children must be five years old by September 1. If you miss this week of registration, please contact your child's school to schedule an appointment. Children should be registered as soon as possible. School staffing is based on enrollment numbers and staffing can be adversely affected by late registrations. Note: Any student who was born outside of the U.S. or needs ESOL services, should contact the International Student Registration Center at 410-313-1525(Korean/English) or 410-313-7102
(Spanish/English).
HCPSS PreK to Kindergarten (Do I need to register my child?) If your child is already enrolled as an HCPSS student in ANY prekindergarten program (RECC or other), you do not need to re-register your child for kindergarten. If your child is transferring to a new school, his/her records including: registration, immunization, health, and report card information, will be sent automatically at the end of this school year.
Thank you for your support, Jason McCoy Principal |
